New book: Manage It! Your Guide to Modern, Pragmatic Project Management

Johanna Rothman's latest book is out now (and available in paper and pdf on pragmaticprogrammer.com). It's got a lot of great stuff to help you lead and manage projects. One of my favorite illustrations from the book demonstrates "schedule hypnosis". You know, that's when:

"The Big Cheese from headquarters is coming to visit next Tuesday. Or you have a trade show in ten weeks. No matter what, you have an immovable date and an ambitious or impossible feature set to complete before that date. Maybe the team has been measuring velocity, maybe not. You don't see how the team can meet the date with the entire feature set. It seems as if the team is in a trance about the date..."

Wait till you see the one for "schedule chicken." :-)
