Guitar God Wannabees, Give Up

10/15/2006

Eric Clapton and his boys played to a packed house here in Raleigh last night, and I just have to say, he still rules the frets.

Last time I saw him was circa 1986 or so, and you never know with aging rockers whether they’ll be able to still pull it off or not. it helps to stack the deck with young, talented sidemen—and a guest appearence by someone like Robert Cray. He didn’t need to, but the combination was great.

The solos were screamin’. It’s got to be hard to sound fresh on a song you’ve been playing for 30-40 years or so. But EC did just that, giving a clean, modern feel to a lot of older and well-known songs.

Nice to see a master work his craft.
