OOPSLA 2005 coming up
09/07/2005
Ralph Johnson sent me an email about this year’s OOPSLA Conference, and it looks to be a good one. Ralph says:
—
Our leading keynote is Robert Haas, former poet laureate of the US, speaking on creativity. Grady Booch is the last speaker, and will surprise anybody who hasn’t been reading his blog for the past year. David Reed, the guy who put the ”/” in TCP/IP is talking about the technical details behind the magic of Croquet. Jimmy Wales will talk about Wikipedia, Mary Beth Rosson will talk about end-user programming, and Martin Fowler will talk about design. Gerald Sussman is talking about how programming can help engineers think about the problem they are trying to solve. We tried to get a more diverse set of papers this year, and at least prevented things from getting even more narrow, though didn’t achieve as much as we wanted. But there is a great set of workshops, and we expect the usual great mix of people.

Thanks for the update, Ralph! I’m particularly intrigued by the choice of keynote. Creativity, intuition, and skills acquisition are topics I’m keenly interested in. Can’t wait to see what he has to say.
