How many punch cards for an mp3?

08/01/2005

According to this blog it would take 40,960 punch cards to encode your average 3-minute mp3 file. The 21 boxes of cards needed would by 5 feet 9 inches tall.

Pretty amazing difference in data encoding density over the years, don’t ya think?

Personally, I can’t wait for the terabyte on a sugar cube to plug into my PDA
