Site back up, and new book released

04/18/2005

Note: Our e-commerce hosting provider, Verio, tried to upgrade their database software on Thursday, 4/14, and apparently hit a series of unfortunate snags. By Saturday 4/16, things seem to be back up and operational again.

At any rate, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Greg Wilson’s new book, Data Crunching: Solve Everyday Problems using Java, Python, and more is now officially published and is shipping direct from our website (it will be appearing in stores and on Amazon in a few weeks).

If you’ve got a CS degree and like to read Knuth or Sedgewick for kicks, this book will probably not be of direct interest to you. But if you or someone you know (a sysadm, perhaps) is tasked with cobbling, hacking, and coercing data from one system to another, you might find this book to be a great treasure trove of ideas and techniques.

Don’t let ad hoc data manipulation turn into an odd hack nightmare! From plain text to XML, binary data to SQL and a helping of regular expressions, this book might be just the ticket.
