JCoverage forked

02/17/2005

Jared Richardson just sent me a note that some of the folks at SAS have embarked on a fork of JCoverage:

Anyone who’s tried to use JCoverage (a Java coverage tool) knows that it’s got a lot of good points, but also it’s got problems. There are enough bugs to prevent effective usage and it’s got a dormant development community.

So it’s a product with huge potential that didn’t quite work right. It couldn’t analyze more than ~200 classes. Percentages covered were sometimes wrong. The reports were ugly.

Fortunately for us, it’s open source. :)

Mark Doliner took the GPLed code, made some additions, cleaned up Ant scripts, fixed a few bugs, and set up a Sourceforge project for it. Our hope is that the tool will get picked up by the community at large.

Here’s a sample report from the new effort.
