Subversion Coming Soon

01/11/2005

Okay, now I’ve gotten the FBI’s attention… :-)

This isn’t about politcal subversion, it’s about Pragmatic Version Control using Subversion, our latest addition to the Pragmatic Starter Kit.

Subversion is a definite improvment on CVS. The fact that all your changes get commited as one atomic set is worth the price of admission alone. I haven’t gotten completely used to Subversion yet, but the usual, everyday commands are the same as in CVS (e.g, instead of cvs update you use svn update, etc.)

For the more interesting commands, installing a new repository or migrating an existing repository from CVS to SVN, there’s Mike Mason’s new book. It’s headed off to the printers next week, so it should hit shelves in about a month (it will be available from our own website first, then on Amazon and in book stores a little later.)

Mike did a great job in taking Dave’s and my words in the original, CVS-based book and updating them for Subversion.

We’ll make an announcement when the book is ready (or you can sign up to our new book announce list).
